Equal Education is inviting all interested parties to join us for an exciting public event, “School Libraries in South Africa: International Debate”, which will take place at the Wits School of Education on Monday, 20 June and the University of Cape Town on Tuesday, 21 June. The International Libraries Panel (ILP) events form part of our “1 School, 1 Library, 1 Librarian!” campaign.
The panels will bring together library experts from Europe, Australia, South America and South Africa. Given the speakers’ wide, international experience and knowledge, they will provide deep insight into the importance of school libraries; share unique perspectives on challenges in advocating for their provision; and draw renewed national media attention to the “1 School, 1 Library, 1 Librarian!” campaign. The panel will also address the cutting-edge challenges and opportunities that information technologies (like e-books) raise in the campaign for school libraries in South Africa.
The ILP events are scheduled to take place one week before our most significant event yet: The People's Summit on Quality Education. The landmark summit is the next step in building the movement for quality and equal education in South Africa. It is intended to rally, inspire and guide the movement’s activism and analysis into the future. The ILP events will inform the development of a better libraries campaign by this education movement.
Please see the attached invitation for further details about speakers, times and locations.
Kindly RSVP (firstname.lastname@example.org) to give us an indication of numbers for catering. We also ask you to bring with you books that are in a good condition and suitable for school learners. These donations will contribute to our on-going campaign towards "One School, One Library, One Librarian!"
