2013 Youth Day Marches

Equal Education (EE) has been campaigning for proper school infrastructure for 4 years. In November 2012 Minister Angie Motshekga and EE reached a court settlement. The Minister promised to produce binding Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure by 15 May 2013. These regulations will give us safe classrooms, libraries and computer labs!

On 9 May the Minister wrote to EE asking for an extension! Even though the Minister has delayed countless times over the past four years, EE granted a one month extension. The Minister replied and said that she wants another six months to publish the regulations. She wants to delay the process forever.

We can’t wait any longer. We need to fix our schools now! We are preparing to return to court to force the Minister to do what she promised. To show the Minister how serious we are we are going to hold Youth Day marches in Pretoria and Cape Town on 17 June 2013. Read our press release HERE.

These marches are for everyone interested in improving the state of schools across the country. Please invite your friends, teachers and parents. Remember to wear your school uniform.

We will deliver a memorandum at both marches – you can read it HERE. If you are an organisation, club, school, society, library, student group, church, trade union or social movement please consider signing this memorandumm (e-mail
