Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure NOW!

We, the learners, teachers, parents and community members whose signatures appear below believe that all schools should have the physical resources needed for quality teaching and learning. These include the school buildings, electricity, water, adequate toilets, fencing and security, libraries, laboratories, adequate classrooms, computer centres, staff rooms, school halls and sports facilities.

At present: Of 24 793 schools, 3 455 schools (14%) have no electricity, 2 402 schools (10%) have no water supply,

11 450 schools (46%) use pit-latrine toilets, 22 304 schools (90%) have no computer centers, 22 938 schools (93%) have no libraries and 23 562 schools (95%) have no science laboratories. (Source: Dept of Basic Edu. 2011.)

No binding standards exist to say what all schools require. We sign this petition in support of EE’s campaign and court case for Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure!
