Equal Education is organised in five provinces: Eastern Cape, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and the Western Cape. Vacancy: Communications manager   

Reports to: Senior Manager Fundraising and Communications
Level: Mid Management -level
Location: Khayelitsha, Western Cape
Duration: Permanent
Salary range: R269 000.00 – R288 000.00 CTC P/A

About the position

Communications Manager creates, implements and oversee communications programs, be it internal or external, that effectively describe and promote Equal Education as well as providing supervision and direction to staff and support to EE’s communication strategy as a
whole.

Responsibilities:
● Drive, and ensure the movement-wide implementation, of EE’s overarching communications strategy
● Support the Senior Manager: Fundraising and Communications to periodically review and continually strengthen EE’s overarching communications strategy
● Lead or co-lead the development, execution and evaluation of strategies for various campaigns
● Support the development of communications skills among EE staff and members
● Write, edit and disseminate media statements, op eds and newsletters
● Oversee the coordination of media interviews, and oversee responses to media queries
● Manage the production of publications including EE’s annual report
● Support the production of campaign materials such as pamphlets and t-shirts, and the production of publications such internal education guides and various research reports
● Manage the production of documentary videos
● Oversee and support the management of all EE’s digital platforms (including the website), ensuring engagement and growth
● Oversee and support the creation of content for all EE’s digital platforms
● Oversee EE’s communications databases
● Oversee the maintenance of the archives for all EE’s internal and external communications materials
● Implement Equal Education’s performance management system

Knowledge and skills:
● Strategic thinking and analytical skills
● Proven ability to develop effective communications strategies (internal, traditional media, social media)
● Excellent writing and editing skills
● Administration and budgeting skills
● Computer literacy, specifically Google Suite
● Proficiency in multiple social media platforms
● Proficiency in online content development tools (i.e. Canva, Photoshop, social media scheduling tools, video editing apps)
● Decision making, problem solving, multi-tasking and coordination skills
● Self-motivated, proactive, curious and committed to constant learning and improvement
● Ability to communicate and interact with all EE stakeholders
● A team player
● Conflict management skills

Required qualifications and experience:
● Degree in journalism or communications
● Minimum two years practical experience
● Background in human rights advocacy is an added advantage
● A qualification or experience in digital marketing is an added advantage
