Subject: 10 000 Equal Education supporters to march to parliament calling for a National Policy on School Libraries

10 000 to march to support Equal Education's call for a National Policy on School Libraries

HHP (Hip Hop Pantsula) will perform for 10 000 marchers from Equal Education. This concert will be followed by a march that will call for a National Policy that provides every child in South Africa with fully functional school libraries and an implementation plan. Five drafts of the policy on school libraries have been made yet no policy exists.

The Concert and a March will be held at Thibault Square, Cape Town to Parliament, on the 21 March 2010, at 11: 30 am.

Equal Education has organised marches around the country [21 March in Cape Town, 26 March in Pretoria and 30 March in Limpopo]. For the march in Cape Town, trains will be available at no cost for the route from Khayelitsha to Cape Town station and Mitchell’s Plain to the Cape Town station.

More than 50 000 signatures for the petition calling for this national policy on school libraries have been collected by Equal Education members, communities, schools and civil society to show their support of this campaign that is trying to bring access to resources to poor and working class schools in our country.
