The Education International (EI) 6th World Congress took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 22 to 25 July 2011. EI is a global union federation of organisations representing more than 30 million teachers and other education workers worldwide.

On 22 July, a group of EE members staged a demonstration outside the Convention Centre where we reiterated our call that Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga adopt regulations for Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure. We also called on Congress delegates to support our demand for school infrastructure standards. EI’s Vice President, Haldis Holst, and Deputy General Secretary, Jan Eastman, addressed the EE demonstrators and pledged to support our campaign for good teaching and learning environments for all.

EE also had a stand at the Congress’ exhibition space where delegates could learn more about our work and donate books to our Bookery Project.
