Equal Education calls on the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) to provide immediate relief to theGrade 8 and 9 learners at Zisukhanyo Secondary School in Phillipi, who have been without desks and chairs since the beginning of the school year. It is disgraceful that in the Western Cape, one of the richest provinces, there are kids sitting on the floor at school.  The MEC of the Western Cape, Donald Grant, is failing the Grade 8 and 9 learners at this particular school. It is unacceptable to force children to write exams whilst sitting on the floor. The conditions these children are being subjected to takes away their dignity as children and human beings and affects their right to basic education. We call on government to remedy this immediately.
