For the past couple of months, EE has been running weekly workshops with parents. This forms part of our efforts to build parents’ understanding of the education system and involve them in efforts to transform poor-performing schools and the country’s unequal education system.
On Saturday, 5 November 2011, a group of parents – mostly from BM Section in Khayelitsha – and members of EE’s Youth and Community department went on an outing to Cape Town’s Long Street. Not only did it provide an opportunity for the parents to get to know each other better and welcome new members to the group, but time was also set aside to evaluate the past months’ work, discuss possible future campaigns and strategize around developing the BM group into a more fully-fledged branch.
