On Saturday 4 February, over 1 000 learners attended Equal Education’s  2012 Opening Event at Look Out Hill in Khayelitsha. The event included a braai and information session. It was held to mobilise the organisation’s high school members, “Equalizers”, in anticipation of the upcoming year. It was also used an opportunity to prepare Equalizers for the next phase in Equal Education’s Norms and Standards Campaign.

The event was organised by Equal Education’s Youth Department and was attended by over 1 000 Equalizers.  Fifteen schools from across Khayelitsha were represented at the event. Nthutuzo Ndzomo – a senior Youth Group facilitator at Equal Education – said, “The event was a huge success and hundreds of new learners registered with our organisation. We will now be able to operate in schools in which we did not previously have a membership base.”
