On Wednesday, 11 April 2012, Equal Education (EE) will attend an education dialogue in Mitchell's Plain hosted by Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, and Minister of the Presidency, Trevor Manuel. The meeting will be held at 16h00 at Spine Road High School.
School governing bodies (SGB) have been invited, along with teachers unions and educations NGO’s, to discuss the role of parents and the community in the struggle for quality education. At the beginning of the year, EE ran an SGB campaign in Khayelitsha to raise awareness among Khayelitsha parents about the role of SGB’s and their importance. EE helped to mobilise parents to participate in the SGB elections held in March and as a result four EE parents were elected.
EE welcomes the opportunity to engage with Minister Motshekga on these important issues. Open dialogue and community engagement is vital to improve the quality and equality of South Africa’s education system. EE staff members, along with Khayelitsha parents, will attend the meeting.
