Equal Education is hosting a roundtable in the Eastern Cape on the state of school infrastructure in the province. Equal Education is a youth-led, mass democratic social movement of learners, post-school youth, principals, teachers, parents and community members that advocates for equal and quality education in South Africa through mobilisation and activism, supported by careful research and critical analysis.
Each year, Equal Education hosts the Eastern Cape Roundtable to discuss the pertinent issues in the provincial education system. The roundtable aims to bring together stakeholders, decision-makers and local communities around a table to discuss the way forward.
As a point of departure for the discussion, Equal Education will be launching a new research report: Whither the Weaver? Fragmentation and Abandonment in School Infrastructure Programmes in South Africa. The report unpacks common trends and obstacles impacting school infrastructure delivery across the country – focusing on the budgeting, planning, performance management, and accountability mechanisms in the ecosystem.
All members of the media are invited to participate in the roundtable discussion, where officials from various public institutions in the province will also be present.
The roundtable details are as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 13 May 2026
Time: 09h00 – 14h30
Venue: Hemingways Guest House, Qonce, Eastern Cape
The event will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EqualEducation
