Equal Education Tutoring Project with Wyberg Girls High School

In May of 2010, EE was approached by Rehana Odendaal, a Grade 12 student at Wynberg Girls High School, with the idea of starting a homework tutoring project. After a few meetings and discussions, the support of the school was secured and a group of students from the Wynberg Girls had been mobilised. Homework sessions soon began to happen regularly each week for EE grade 9 youth group members from Kwamfundo, Bulumko and Esangweni High Schools in partnership with Wynberg Girls. The project is currently being led by Meghan Daniels at Wynberg, as well as the leaders of EE's Grade 9 Youth Group, Luzuko Sidimba and Asanda Mankayi. This project is a powerful example of how young people are working together against the inequalities that exist within the Western Cape public education system.

We would like to expand the project to involve more schools. If you would like to involve your school, please get in touch with us using info@equaleducation.org.za or contact the EE office on 021 387 0022/3.
