Wednesday 15 May 2013 was the agreed deadline by which Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga was to promulgate into law final and binding regulations providing Minimum Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure. But on 9 May 2013 the Minister wrote to Equal Education (EE) requesting more time to finalise the regulations. After wide consultation by EE amongst our members, EE and its legal representatives the Legal Resources Centre (LRC) have written to the Minister offering a one-monthextension for the promulgation of the Norms and Standards to 15 June 2013. The one-month extension will come into effect only if the Minister signs an addendum to the original settlement agreement, agreeing to a new deadline of 15 June. Failing this the Minister will be in breach of the original settlement agreement, and EE will renew its application to court.
